Abbe Hyde
Recovering academic! Research background in female entrepreneurs, disruptive innovation, and a recently published research on optimism. Women of Influence Nominee 2016. Australasian Award for research in sustainable transport innovation. Hardware engineer and CTO of Winely where she uses qualitative research frameworks to dive deep into customer pain and solution mapping.
Sarah's path to business is what one would call 'non-traditional'. After leaving school and home at 15, Sarah went to Australia as a nanny at 17 and fast forward 20 years of self training and hard yakka - she is now a professional director for several companies and not for profit organisations, Commercial Director and co-owner of high precision engineering firm United Machinists, and an active angel investor.
As Founder and Managing Director for Immersion Marketing for eight years, Sarah oversaw strategy development and implementation for over 100 clients, including major national and international brands. Prior to that Sarah held national marketing and business development roles for NPT Limited in New Zealand, and Colonial First State, Hyperion Asset Management and the Commonwealth Bank in Australia.
Sarah is a passionate Dunedinite and active member of the community, she is currently the Chair of Startup Dunedin and a former Councillor for the Otago Medical Research Foundation, Otago Access Radio and the Dunedin Heritage Prison Trust. She, her husband Alex and their toddler son live off the grid in a forestry block about 30minutes South of Dunedin.
