This event is aimed at NZ tech businesses who are keen to learn more about business opportunities in the UK.
This session will open with an update on UK developments by British Deputy High Commissioner, Helen Smith, and follow with a panel discussion, outlining key developments and business opportunities in the UK market.
The panel will provide practical tips on how to set up in the UK and share their successes and experiences of operating in this market.
This event will give you the opportunity to hear from and pose questions to industry experts, as well as understand how the UK government and the UK Department for International Trade (DIT) can support your growth.

Speakers
Mrs Helen Smith arrived in July 2015 as the British Deputy High Commissioner to New Zealand.
Helen has a wide range of diplomatic experience. She comes to New Zealand from five years in London, firstly as Deputy Head of the UK Somalia Unit, and later as Head of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s (FCO’s) Operations Unit.
Her previous overseas posting was as Head of Communications and Second Secretary Political at the British Embassy in Warsaw from 2007-2010. Prior to that, she worked in the FCO in London on Gibraltar/EU issues and as Private Secretary to the Director General Globalisation and Desk Officer for the Holy See.

In her role, Nicole focuses on supporting New Zealand small businesses to grow through the use of cloud apps and access to the financial services they need to thrive.
Before starting with Xero, Nicole led Ventures, Digital and Product at Vodafone, including the creation of the Vodafone Xone, a startup accelerator. Nicole started her career in Silicon Valley working for Ernst & Young’s Venture Capital Advisory Group, before moving to Europe to work for 3i, Europe’s largest Private Equity firm.
Binu Paul
Binu has founded a number of fintech startups over the years including SavvyKiwi in 2014, FINNOTEC in 2016 and co-founded PocketWise in 2017.
Previously, he managed the successful exit of an asset consulting and investment research firm to the New Zealand Stock Exchange, in his role as its chief executive. Among other stints in the industry he headed up business strategy for a $4 billion Japanese asset management firm for a number of years.
Prior to completing the strategy execution course at the Wharton business school of the University of Pennsylvania, Binu gained a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA), a Bachelors’ degree in Technology (B.Tech) and qualified as a registered representative of the New Zealand Futures and Options Exchange.
Binu is a founding member of FinTechNZ and currently Chair of its international relations working group.
Having joined Oury Clark fresh out of University, Huw trained with the firm and (bar a 6 month sabbatical - a misguided venture into the city) has spent 12 years building a client book. Over the last six years, the majority of his new clients are from the Asia Pac region.
Huw covers a broad range of industries, but tends to have most of his clients from the IT, Saas and FinTech space. Huw has tracked and followed the changes in regulated financial service and supports applications for authorisation with the Financial Conduct Authority, in the UK, and the wider passporting opportunities to the rest of the EU.
Peter is one of the most experienced and accomplished global technology business advisers & sector head hunters. Peter is the founder of Newfound Global following on from his 25 years’ experience in international Executive Search.
Peter has a passion for helping outstanding entrepreneurs and senior executives in growing themselves personally & professionally. He invests in, advises and connects brilliant people on a global basis.
A New Zealand national by birth, Peter has lived in London for over thirty years.
