Meet Laura, product manager at Springtimesoft Consulting, our technology delivery partner for Techweek'18.

Explain your role at Techweek in one sentence
Bridging the gap between Techweek's requirements, the community/audience's needs, and our development team to help Techweek deliver an awesome user experience for everyone involved.

Tell us something we'd be surprised to know about you
I've just started Te Reo Māori classes!

What were you doing before Techweek?
At Springtimesoft we've been working on some awesome projects this year that I have really enjoyed being part of. Each project I work on stretches me and tests out some new areas which is what I really love. Techweek has certainly delivered in that respect!

I was also running an event series called MUV Talks, with my friend and co-founder Pauli. It's been an exciting year getting that off the ground and feeling the community support.

And what would your dream job be after Techweek has finished?
I'm pretty sure someone out there has the job of tasting ice cream. I would like that job.

Failing that, working on creative projects that raise awareness and educate on issues important to me.

I'm really passionate about the grassroots aspect of Techweek. We have so many organisations and people working hard all-year-round to empower others and solve problems big and small.

Name one thing about Techweek'18 that you're particularly excited about.
I'm really passionate about the grassroots, community aspect. We have so many organisations and people working hard all-year-round to empower others and solve problems big and small. I'm excited for the rest of New Zealand (and the world!) to see that and the opportunity for them to have even more impact.

What's your favourite sci-fi or near future novel/film/tv series and why?

The Firefly television series, and corresponding movie Serenity, directed by Joss Whedon. As far as Wild West meets dystopic-future-solar-system goes it's pretty rad.

What I really love about it are the strong, diverse and most importantly, multidimensional female characters that have such integral parts in the story, and generally kick ass throughout it. I could talk about each character and their journey for paragraphs, but I strongly suggest watching the series, and also checking out this cool list of Joss Whedon's strongest female characters – of which three are from Firefly – or this post on Firefly's female characters on medium and why they're important.

Also, big fan of Nathan Fillion. And Joss Whedon.
