Meet the team | Courteney Peters

Meet Courteney, our new Marketing and Communications Manager

Explain your role at Techweek in one sentence
I'm the guardian of the Techweek brand, and I get to gather awesome success stories from across the New Zealand innovation ecosystem and tell them to the world.

Tell us something we’d be surprised to know about you.

I have an undergrad degree in Aviation and I actually got my pilots' license before my drivers license – my mum used to have to drive me out to the airport to go flying.

What were you doing before Techweek?

Running a couple of my own businesses – a lifestyle media company called gatherandhunt.co.nz and a content production company, thejungle.nz

And what’s your next dream job when you finish up here?

I've always wanted to write a novel...

Name one thing about Techweek’18 you’re particularly excited about

The Techweek Discovery (or Disco, as I'm a little too fond of calling it)! I was part of the team during Techweek'17 and afterward I got to be part of the process of reflection and strategy that led to the creation of this event planning and discussion forum. I'm beyond excited that it's now live! (Join the conversation here).

What’s your favourite sci-fi or near future novel/film/tv series and why?

I am a huge sci-fi/fantasy geek and have been since I was a kid so it's hard to pick just one...

Novel: Hyperion by Dan Simmons – an epic intergalactic saga told in the same format as Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, it's incredible.
Film: Luc Besson's The Fifth Element – when I was 16 I spent a frightening number of hours on a presentation for IT class on the technology in this film, all perfectly timed to a soundtrack of the Diva Dance. How can you not love a classic Bruce Willis good vs evil action flick unfolding across space and time with costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier?
