Technology has been and continues to be a key enabler for Antarctic science and exploration since the days of Sir Edmund Hillary to the present. Explore the development and use of technology in Antarctica from the husky sleds to the snow-master tractor to the Hägglund at the International Antarctic Centre. Experience the extremes of Antarctica in the snow and ice room and learn how Antarctic bases have been designed to withstand extreme conditions and to apply recycling technology. Learn how the international Antarctic missions are supported by engineering technology that not only provides energy but enables effect data collection. See how New Zealand leads in the design of extreme innovative cold weather clothing technology for extreme environments. Board an Antarctic vessel and experience the 4D theatre with 3D imagery and 4D special effects as you go on a mission to Antarctica. Experience a virtual flight to Antarctica and learn about the range of aircraft used to take scientists to Antarctica, including the C130 Hercules. Look at how ozone technology supports our blue penguins to survive in our penguin encounter, providing a sustainable penguin welfare centre. Finally learn about our future plans for snow making technology virtual reality and augmented reality at the International Antarctic Centre.
