Techfugees Koraunui Stokes Valley Hackathon

BE INSPIRED! We'll come together & roll up our sleeves to develop solutions to the challenges faced by former refugees when they resettle in NZ.

What's it all about?

Hackathons are the first and essential step of Techfugees' innovation cycle aimed at building a sustainable and impactful worldwide #tech4refugees ecosystem.

Over two days, participants will work in teams to create solutions to help with the refugee journey and settlement, and work together to build community.

Techfugees Koraunui Stokes Valley is the first hackathon of its kind in New Zealand and will open up opportunities to:

1. Create actual solutions to help with the refugee journey and settlement
2. Welcome former refugees into the local tech community
3. Build community and create a bank of knowledge.

We have purposely located the event in a local region where there are a number of refugee background communities to encourage their attendance.

Our first New Zealand event will connect refugee background and tech communities, and empower attendees with technology, guidance and mentoring. We will start with three core problems which the teams will aim to create solutions for.

At the end of the weekend, the teams will pitch their ideas to a judging panel, with the winners announced and awards presented.

There will be roving mentors to help the participants every step of the way.

We are aiming to have 50 participants working in teams of 4-5 people. Our goal is to attract a diverse group of people from both refugee background and tech communities. Participants don’t need to come from a tech background. The hackathon is a free event and everyone is welcome.
