The Measurement Standards Laboratory of New Zealand (MSL) is New Zealand's national metrology institute and we ensure the units of measurement used in all areas of science, technology and human endeavour are consistent with the globally agreed International System of Units (SI).
On World Metrology Day on 20 May, the international measurement community is changing the way we measure things. This global change involves moving away from material reference artefacts (e.g. the kilogram prototype in Paris), and instead employing a set of seven defining constants, from which all SI units can be derived. We will share useful information about why the changes are happening and demonstrate the innovation launchpad it enables. We invite academics, students, testing labs, regulators, and organisations from the manufacturing, agriculture, food and beverage sectors to register for this informative day.
