Preparing Tauranga for the future of work

What can you do? What needs to be done? Who is prepared to help?

What's it all about?

Robotics, artificial intelligence, quantum computing all sound far away and disconnected from the everyday work most of us get up every morning to do in Tauranga and Western Bay.

However, many technologies, not just these will have an impact on what, how – and how much we are paid – to work within the next 10 years.What got our community here, won't get us much closer to the flourishing, inclusive community many envisage unless we innovate – together – at every level.

Whether you are an employer, employee, learner, entrepreneur or investor the near-term future is going to include new and different skills, relationships and methods.

This event will bring some clarity on what to expect and how you might prepare yourself to participate in the future of work.

What to expect of this 3-hour event:

  • Presentations by economic development, academic, global business services provider and international community enterprise experts.
  • Networking with morning tea and refreshments.
  • Panel discussion with experts facilitated by local innovation leader Pip Loader.

This event is designed to unpack:

  • how the pace of technological change will affect you and what is happening to prepare for it;
  • what the current and short-range trends are according to the data, for you and your children; and,
  • what can be done in and by our community to mitigate the threats and deliver the means to take advantage of the meaningful employment opportunities available in the future of work.
