This event will be in two parts: Several short presentations, then a panel/AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on latest trends in legal technology (including legal AI and blockchain) and new ways of delivering legal services.
The blockchain presentation will provide a high-level description of blockchain, draw comparisons between smart contracts and 'legal contracts', and address the question "does a Smart Contract meet the definition of 'Contract' enforcible under NZ law?"
The legal chatbots presentation will provide a high-level description of chatbots and virtual assistants, cover the important use cases for legal chatbots (and how they are different from robo-lawyers), and explore the role of legal chatbots in a law firm's client engagement strategy.

Phil is a self-confessed "serial entrepreneur" who is known for finding needs and working to fill them - demonstrated in his portfolio of six successful companies throughout New Zealand and the United Kingdom. It was through CommArc, his company offering specialised IT solutions for law firms, that OneLaw, an innovative law practice management system, was born.
Active Associate is a Christchurch software company offering AI-enabled client engagement and productivity solutions for law firms. Andrei has over 20 years of product, project and marketing management experience in leading international companies, including a global NASDAQ-listed corporation, and as a founder/CEO of two software start-ups.
Steven is a Partner at Parry Field Lawyers working with international companies as well as New Zealand companies and start-ups. He worked for 11 years at international law firm Norton Rose Fulbright in Tokyo, London and Sydney. Steven hosts a popular Seeds podcast dedicated to people making a positive impact with their lives.
Kris Morrison is a Partner at Parry Field Lawyers leading their corporate, technology and start-up advisory team as well as the migrant team. He also acts for not for profit charities, social enterprises and schools. Kris is a Board Member of Code Club Aotearoa and the Chairman of the Board of two school networks.
David Pugh has 30+ years of experience developing mission-critical software solutions in the UK and New Zealand. He is an expert in blockchain, smart contracts, VR and related technologies. Dave's social enterprise Ourtrees.nz is using blockchain to survey and catalogue our indigenous forests and create a permanent and public record of the data.
Andrew is a registered New Zealand and Australian patent and trade mark attorney and a council member of the New Zealand Institute of Patent Attorneys (NZIPA). With a broad background in physics, biochemistry, and chemistry, Andrew has also completed a PhD in synthetic medicinal chemistry and post-doctoral studies in materials science.
